Outdoor Counselling
for Adults
In Vancouver & Nanaimo, BC
Taking therapy off the couch
and into the outdoors.
Why Step Outside?
Traditional therapy often places you in a small room, face-to-face across a desk. For many, that setup can feel intense, static, or unnatural—especially when you are already feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or holding heavy emotions.
Outdoor walk and talk counselling shifts that dynamic entirely. Movement releases physical tension, while nature provides a calming, expansive backdrop. Walking side-by-side takes off the pressure of continuous eye contact, making it easier to speak freely, process difficult thoughts, and access deeper self-reflection.
Online vs. Outdoor Hybrid Flexibility
While many people enjoy the comfort of having therapy sessions online from their own home, some people think and speak more freely when they are on the move. For that reason, many of my Vancouver and Nanaimo area clients prefer to walk with me on the trails outdoors. Rest assured, you can move between walk-and-talk and online sessions as per your comfort and do not have to stick with one or the other.
How Outdoor Counselling Helps You Move Forward
Reduces Anxiety & Nervous System Overload: Movement combined with natural light lowers cortisol levels, calms the nervous system, and helps quiet an overactive mind.
Unlocks Movement in "Stuck" Thinking: Physical momentum often sparks mental momentum. Walking helps break through repetitive thoughts and opens up fresh perspectives.
Side-by-Side Comfort: Speaking while walking creates a relaxed, collaborative environment that feels less like an interrogation and more like a focused, grounded conversation.
Mindfulness in Action: The sights, sounds, and rhythms of nature act as a gentle, natural anchor—helping you stay present rather than getting lost in past regrets or future worries.
What a Session Looks Like
-
A Custom, Accessible Pace:
Sessions are tailored entirely to your physical comfort. Whether we take a gentle stroll through a local park or walk a quiet trail, the focus is always on therapeutic conversation—not fitness or exercise.
-
Flexible Locations:
Sessions take place in quiet, accessible outdoor spaces in the Vancouver and Nanaimo BC areas, chosen to balance scenic calm with personal privacy.
-
Weather-Adaptive:
BC weather is part of the experience. We dress appropriately for light rain or gentle coastal weather, but online video sessions are always available as a seamless backup option whenever conditions require.
Who Outdoor Counselling Is Best For

Frequently Asked Questions:
Outdoor Counselling
-
Your privacy is a top priority. We select quiet, low-traffic parks, trails, and green spaces in the area that offer natural distance from crowds. If we pass other people on a path, we simply pause our therapeutic conversation, talk about something neutral, and resume once we have private space again. Most passersby assume we are simply two people out for a walk.
-
Living and working in British Columbia means we are used to a bit of rain! As long as conditions are safe and comfortable, we dress appropriately and head outside. However, if extreme weather strikes (like heavy downpours, high winds, or severe cold), we can seamlessly shift our session to an online video call or reschedule—no stress required.
-
Not at all. This is therapeutic counselling, not a workout or a fitness session. The pace is set entirely by you—whether that means a gentle, leisurely stroll, stopping to sit on a park bench, or adjusting our speed as we talk. The movement is just there to help ground you and support your conversation.
-
Sessions take place in accessible, calm, and quiet outdoor locations around the local Vancouver/Lower Mainland & Nanaimo areas. Once you book, we will coordinate a location that is convenient, accessible, and comfortable for you.
-
Simply dress for the weather and wear comfortable, flat walking shoes or sneakers. Bringing a water bottle and a light jacket or umbrella (depending on the season) is always a good idea.
-
Yes. Many clients enjoy a hybrid approach—meeting outdoors when schedule and weather allow, and holding online video sessions during busier weeks or inclement weather. We can adapt the format to best fit your lifestyle and comfort.
